Through tears of grief and frustration, I wrote this blog nearly a year ago after reading the biography of a young woman who survived the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. I have withheld posting the blog, knowing it will incite some people and, frankly, I’m tired of politics and arguing. But with the pictures of Mollie Tibbets and Cristhian Rivera juxtaposed—being used to promote political agendas, fan the flames of fear, and pit people against one another—I can be silent no longer. (And if you attack me by calling me a “liberal” or accusing me of being for “open borders,” you have failed to hear what I am saying.) Furthermore, to make the murder of this young lady about the immigration debate is to dishonor her and diminish her life and tragic death.
